Friday is the day after Thursday & the day before Saturday. It's the beginning of the weekend when most people in Europe & the Americas don't have to work. This makes Friday the day everyone waits for, the end of which signals a period of relaxation. Some people play, some spend the time with their families - whatever they want to do.
A "man Friday" (from the book Robinson Crusoe) is a helper. He is someone who runs errands & does work that is not considered important enough for his boss. This person is also called a go-fer because he goes for this & goes for that, whatever his boss requires.
The word Friday comes from the Norse Freya's Day. Freya was the wife of Odin, the chief Norse God & Goddess of Love & Fertility, the most important of the Norse Goddesses.

For most corporate working people it is the last day of the work week. For kids it is the last day of school until Monday. It's like a mini holiday every week.
