i think soliders who get killed in action, are called heros, as some sort of comfort to their familes, prince harry will never obtain that title, as they wont let him go to war,in case he gets hurt.

Unlike Lotus above, I will be openly offended, and call the cretin who wrote this post on his obvious BS:
I believe this is one of those rhetorical troll questions. I note that Brian does not let us see his posting history, and I note as well, with a little amazement, that Brian has a 74% best answer percentage.
So what I'm seeing here is a kind of trolling-to-see-who's-soulless question coming from Brian. I'm sure Brian does not ascribe to the philosophy of winners good/losers bad cold hearted Darwinianism this question implies. But still it's amazing as well that the majority of those that have answered have not done so with a bit more horror.
So, I'll respond as I feel is appropriate: Brian, whether or not you agree with the war, those men and women who are injured or die on a war front were NOT the victims of natural selection. They were the victims of war. They fought because they WERE brave. Some that return intact may indeed have been LESS brave than these others that suffered injury.
And then I would ask: Brian, have you ever fought, either in a war, or a brawl, or even in a boxing ring?
You other folks that answered, most of you appear a little asleep to me. This is a major troll we have here, who is finding out exactly how asleep you are. If you are anything but deeply offended by this sort of exercise in cynicism, you need to turn off the tube, sit down in a quiet place and do some serious thinking.
Good morning...

Well, BOTH the wounded AND the unwounded are heros to most people. Whether or not you get wounded or killed is totally arbitrary. You are moving to call one person a hero and another person not totally on LUCK? What kind of merit system is that? Totally illogical. The more dangerous your mission is, the more heroic you are. The more dangerous your mission is, the more likely you'll be killed. Soldiers are risking their lives. They are all heroes, especially those that put themselves in the position to be wounded or killed. If they didn't, many others would die. Based on YOUR method of awarding "heros," an officer sitting in a tent at base writing memos would be a bigger hero than a combat soldier fighting the enemy. That's pretty obtuse.

Well first YOU are obviously NOT a veteran. NOBODY goes into the service and knowingly or willingly gives up his or her life for their country. NO ONE. ALL servicemen and women give their all to come back alive. BUT unfortunately some do not come home. To one degree you are correct the ones who come home are hero's. BUT in all actuality they are ALL HERO'S But the ones who have given their life have given the ultimate in order that you will have the freedom to ask question such as the one you have just asked. I would suggest that YOU join the U.S. Marines and request to go over to Iraq or Iran and see first hand what it is all about.

In my opinion, anyone who goes to war, wounded or not, is a hero just for volunteering to put himself or herself in danger for people they don't even know.
A big THANK YOU to all the troops past and present. Because of your sacrifice, I am free to raise my family as I see fit, instead of how the government tells me to.
