Collectivism squashes the individual's rights to make decisions and interact with other individuals in mutual and agreeable exchange.

It is similar to self-centeredness vs. universalism. People in the case of former focus on issues pertaining to them whereas at the other end of the scale, there are people who give priority to common issues unmindful of their own interests!
