"Even the highest morale is eventually undermined by back-to-back deployments ... by shortages of spare parts and equipment, and by rapidly declining readiness."

"We will not be permanent peacekeepers, dividing warring parties. This is not our strength or our calling."

Was it John Kerry?

John Edwards?

Barack Obama?

NO. Here's a clue: It's the same guy who said we should have a "humble foreign policy" that didn't "tell other nations how to run their affairs", and who eschewed "Nation Building".

Give up?

It was GEORGE W. BUSH! Part of his 2000 campaign. The first quotes were from a speech he gave at the Citadel in 1999.

So, Bush worshippers, was he lying or badly misguided? Pick one!

I think we should nation build, starting with Iraq, Iran, Afganistan, Pakistan, Syria, Turkey, and throw in Sri Lanka so we get a good foothold in Africa too. As far as morale, it will pick up as we grow our country, winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. Americans like winners, and have a low viewpoint of losers, so let's win one for the gipper.

Bush has flip-flopped on issues and campaign promises more than any other prez and is obviously too stupid to realize his inconsistencies. On the other hand, perhaps he intentionally flip-flops to keep us all guessing about what he will do or say next. He does claim to be the spokesman for God Almighty, so perhaps God should be blamed for the mess we're in. This would be far more convenient and less frustrating in the end....

Cheney sucked out the brain of the real Bush and had him replaced. The replacement's discarded pod is hidden somewhere in Waco.

I'm more of a Bush disliker but I'll go with a liar *and misguided. He doesn't know what he stands for except when he's wrong.

What lie are you talking about?

Morale does get worse with back to back deployments.

We don't plan on being permanent peacekeepers. We shouldn't nation build as a practice, but sometimes it's necessary.

What lies??
