It is not an offense to use it in most states of Australia now. Adults may grow two plants for personal use and selling is still prohibited. Some countries allow both growing and legalised selling of marijuana. Other countries have severe penalties in place for minor trafficking. If any product becomes legal to sell the Government has the right to implement a goods & services tax.

The reason we don't legalize marijuana is because there's no way for America to get rich off of it. The best marijuana is grown in Mexico, South America and some in Europe. America is just not the right climate for growing quality marijuana. Maybe Hawaii, but otherwise we'd be paying whatever taxes we made off of marijuana sales to foreign countries and since it would cause a shitstorm of controversey and produce little money, no one wants to support the legalization of marijuana.
What they ought to do is decriminalize it. Colorado has recently done this to where anything less than 2 ounces is no longer illegal possession. It seems stupid that I could get into trouble for a half-ounce of marijuana, which would in no way put my health in any danger... but I can buy a case of whiskey legally, take it home, and drink myself to death within 24 hours.

I don't think legalizing pot 'defeats the purpose' - it doesn't change the high, the euphoria, the creative thinking, OR the fun, unless of course they start messing with the purity or adding 'healthy additives,' etc. If it were legal, I'd start up again but because of the field I work in, I can't. S'not fair say I...

I suppose, if you like paying hugely inflated black market prices, you and your suppliers running the risk of being arrested, and the intermingling of criminal culture that comes from prohibition, all to allow you to feel a sense of freedom and sticking it to the man.
Personally, I don't think it's a fair trade-off. I'll take government regulation and taxation over government suppression any day. Just compare the problems of Prohibition to the alcohol industry today to see how much better it could be.

I just slammed by finger in a truck door. After surgery, they gave me vicodin for the pain. Stuff totally messed with my stomach and head. Then they gave me darvocet. Same deal. I decided to medicate myself....no bad side effects. Just pain relief. Now where do you think I stand on this issue?

No, I think it should be legal...let the government tax and regulate it and make it available to all adults...just like cigarettes or alcohol.

Sure, why not? But then they would have to make laws like they have for alcohol. No smoking and driving. Make an age limit. Blah blah blah.

No, the reason for that is that its not healthy for you. It was proven to cause more health issue then benefits. If you want to smoke then go on I wont stop you. Because thats your choice and you made it.
