Have it appraised and maybe have some jewelry made from it. My sister is a designer, but she lives far away and is too busy to help much. Thanks!

p.s. Its purple, black, grey and brown. Its about the size of a fig. I found it on the ground by the lake.

I would suggest taking it to a local jeweler with a Graduate Gemologist (Gemological Institute of America- GIA) on staff to have it assessed and an estimate to have it polished as well. Keep in mind you will lose between 35% & 65% of the current weight when having the stone polished into a finished piece.

If you want to have a piece of jewelry made from it, the gemologist will be able to coordinate that with a lapidary (gem cutter) as well. Before anything is done, they will be able to give you an estimate on both the cutting work and the setting work, so you won't be out much money (just the assessment/appraisal fee); and your gemologist will be able to tell you if you've found just a pretty rock or something of actual value beforehand as well.

Hope that's helpful!

You need to take it to a jewelry store that has a G.G. (gemologist). Preferably one who has graduated from the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) that way you'll know your getting some top notch information!!! Don't trust just any jeweler, a GG has studied gems and knows what he's talking about!!!!

Hmm, purple black grey and brown....sound just like a fig to me... lol. XD A jewler will most likely be able to help you figuring out what it is, how much its worth, and what you can do with it. Good Luck!!

PS: I want a fig ring out of this.....just kidding! : )

Take it to the bank and ask them how much money you can get for it.

Any jeweler will be able to tell you what it is, if it's worth anything, etc.
