What is the line between love and friendship?

This is a question that has been answered by lovers and philosophers for centuries, but there is still no absolute definition.

Perhaps this is because we all perceive things differently, depending on our personal character, as well as our background.

My impression would be that it is essential to first have friendship, and on this base of friendship love can grow, and last.

Friendship is a relationship between people who share a liking of things, thoughts and activities. It requires understanding of the other, an acceptance of perceived differences in opinion and a willingness to forgive.

Friendship comes in different forms and it has different levels, ranging from acquaintance and .familiarity to a bond between people that will sustain onslaught from many sources.

For a true friendship to last, trust is all-important, but it must be mutual, as this will be what ultimately bonds the friendship, and the people.

Love has much of the same requirements, but emotions play a larger part, as the feelings are much stronger, very often intense, and the bond that develops will encompass more of what makes up the two people, thus drawing them even closer together.

It is best to first have friendship, so that the emotions can have a foundation on which to build, and a known trust on which to grow.

Love is an acceptance of the other person, in whole, with an active willingness to work around differences and errors, and to forgive them even as the other person does the same with you.

Ultimately, love implies a shared existence on some or many levels and as it grows deeper it creates a bond of immense strength. Love is the strongest thing to be found anywhere in life, yet it is always flexible.

Which will last longer? If the foundation is solid, and the building is done mutually, the two will be tightly intertwined, and will continue unbroken, but it will be love that carries the burden between life's fragile moments.

The thin line between the two is respect and trust. Friendship lasts longer because people tend to stick with their close friends no matter what. True love is also a good friendship. I think that love faces the most problems overall.

I really couldn't say. I think friendship lasts longer, cos you don't have to worry about whether they're cheating on you, or anything like that. Also, not only is there a thin line between love and friendship, there is one between love and hate. At times the person you love more than anyone in the world can become your enemy, even if it is just for a few minutes!! and vice versa!!!

it's a weird world!! =]

I would say there is really no line between the two. when you are truly friends with someone you love them just as much as you would yourself. So again, friendships last just as long as the love does. Friends are like trees - there are those that stick around forever like the roots of the trees and then are those that hang on like leaves and whichever way the wind blows is how they swing, but if a strong wind comes (i.e bad/terrible situation) you can forget it because they are gone. Probably, like anyone else, I would much rather have the old roots of the trees because they have been through it all hence the evidence of love in that relationship.

Love vs Friendship

friendships last longer in my opinion. You tell your best friend everything, but some people hide things from those they love. i'm not saying that that is right, but it's true.

There is passionate love and sacrificial love.
The sacrificial love is the road that will carry the love for a life time. The passion will ebb & flow during the journey, but will not stay at the same intensity.

Wait... are you nevertheless togehter together with his chum? on the grounds this is the form of subject that shatters friendships, you do not want to be in charge for that. in the experience that your single go forward and ask him out, evidently such as you would be solid mutually.

I say Love because if with best friends you eventually fall in love with them but since they think you are just friends they date other people and you end up feeling betrayed hurt and envy but she wouldnt know it.
