i got my period while i was at home alone, but called my parent's friends (neighbor who was a nurse) and went to her house, pretty uneventful.
you can use tampons whenever you are ready. there is no age restriction, just be sure to read all the information and be super careful to follow the directions.
if you get your period at the beach, just wear tampons, that will solve that problem. i doubt your period will come that soon tho since this is your first, and the first 2 years are pretty irregular.
the best pads for me are always ultra with wings. (i get the pink ones for lighter days and the yellow/orange ones [overnights] for heavy days or to sleep in)
tyou may want to look into the INSTEAD cup, it makes you feel clean, you can wear it for up to 12 hours, and has less chance of TSS.
the website is right there \/

My first period ever was a nightmare that lasted for a heavy 8 days when I was 12, just before Spring Break. Don't be alarmed, though. When you first start your period it's generally really irregular so your next period may come early, late, or not at all. It can be heavy, light, long, short. It's really chancey.
As for your bed sheet problem. It's okay. Next time remember even if you don't see much blood, that doesn't mean it's not coming. I would suggest you use heavy overnight pads because they are a bit longer than regular pads so there's more pad to absorb. Keep a thing of baby wipes around because that can help you feel a bit cleaner, and helps if you've accidentally stained your panties. They're making pads with little feminen wipes on them for that cleaner feeling. Perhaps you should look into that.
Tampons you can wear whenever you feel comfortable. Talk to your mom or older sister about them because they might be able to give you some valuable pointers. Using tampons won't mean you aren't a virgin anymore either.
I don't know what to tell you about the beach. It would be a really bad idea to wear a pad because if it gets wet it'll leak and feel heavy like a diaper. The instead cups are a good idea, but not all women can wear them. I know my body isn't proportioned right for them.
Congrats on your continued journey into womanhood, and don't be nervous!

1. I was 10 when I started mine and it was horrible I bled something awful and then I didn't have a period for like a year. Yes it was embarrassing like yours.
2. For night time try using the pads with wings and that are long (for night time or heavy periods) and then use a regular pad during the day. DO NOT USE PADS THAT HAVE DEODORIZERS. They promote yeast infections and bacterial infections and many woman are very sensitive to the fragrance. As far as keeping clean they now make wipes that you can throw in your purse and you can "wash up" when changing your pads. Always (brand name) has some that are actually attached to the wrapper.
3. You can use a tampon when your ready I normally don't recommend girls using them when they are young due to the TSS (toxic shock syndrome) It's rare but it can happen. Talk with your mom before using them.
4. As far as the beach you will have to cross that bridge when you get to it. You may not be regular for a couple months so you may not have your period when you go to the beach. But as far as swimming a tampon is the only way to go there.

My first period happened when I was, like, 9 years old... I'd gone to a sex ed class just weeks before so I knew what was going on. I called my sis, she brought me a pad and showed me how to put it in my underwear... no big deal. I was embrarassed at school because I felt like everyone could tell even though they couldn't :P And I still have 'accidents' from time to time, especially when I'm sleeping... its nothing to be embarassed about, hon. It just happens :)
I'm 20 now and I still don't use tampons... I have a few times, but I just don't like them. I prefer pads. I can't really give advice there :P Start using them when you feel comfortable with it
About the beach... you should try a tampon, or either hope you don't get your period when you're at the beach. I've never had a regular period, so I can't rely on a calender.
Good luck!

My first period I had at my dad's and it was at night when the stores were closed. He didn't know it was my first and so he said: Why don't you know, I can't get you anything now!!
Then he went to his neighbor and got me some pads. ha ha
Well, my mom said it lasted for about 4 days and so the 5th day we were going to the zoo and I didn't war any pads, but of course I wasn't done and so I was stained all over, that was pretty embarrassing. It lasted the first time for about 5 days and than it took 6 weeks for the next as far as I can remember.
If you wan to go swimming you need to start using tampons. I do use O.B. because they are easier to get in and less painful than those nasty applicators which I don't like, same counts for going to the beach.
Tampons makes you feel clean the most, because the blood will stay in the tampon, you only need to change it regularly and you hardly feel you have your period.

1. Not as bad as yours! Went to school one day and at the end of the day I saw blood and kinda freaked out, but told nobody until I got home (luckily I go to an all girls school). The second time I got it, it was a lot heavier and that freaked me out!
2. I started using tampons the second time I got it cause it was just so messy!
3. First of all not all periods are a 28 day cycle (that's just the average). Secondly you will not be regular the second time you get it. Almost nobody is!
4. Best types of pads- either Always Clean or Kotex. (don't use maxi, it feels like 3x more uncomfortable than regular!).
hope this helps!

ok first some advice: i find that peroxide takes blood out of cloth very very nicely so what i would do is dab a little peroxide on the bed sheeets to get most of the blood out and then wash the sheets.
now for the first question: my was embarrising because i was with my DAD when i started (eekk omg i swear i don't think i ever got over that day)
2) well for tampons i can't say if your young i wouldn't recomend tampons to soon but its up to you and your mom.
3)about the beach tch tch hmm looks like you've got your self a doozy of a problem. i would pack extra pads, extra undies, and if your mom says its ok i guess tampons what i would do though is when i go into the water use a tampon then for the rest of the time use a pad
4) some pads come with little wips you use instead of TP so i get those and they do help me feel clean. also i would get some night time pad wich are a bit biger and more absorbent
hope this helps and remeber don't be scared its a natral process.

1. Mine was at the beach in a restaurant hours from my house with all my BFFs! So yes, it stained and it was embarrassing and they didn't find out for weeks.
2. Whenever you feel most comfortable and sick of pads.
3. About the beach, you'll be fine! Try out tampons now if you want to because they're not bad AT ALL!
4. Always Clean (Ha, thats funny!)

1. Was at home with mom, I put a pad on and came downstairs and told her I got my period.
2. You can use them now if you want. Get a plastic applicator and the slenderest ones and read the pamphlet.
3. If you don't want to use a tampon, no going in the water.
4. I use all different brands.
