... in Congress. We get it that the Dems want to pull out of Iraq. So why are they wasting their time and taxpayer money to debate this issue over and over again, passing non-binding resolutions, and passing bills that they know will be vetoed and they don't have the votes to override?

People complained that the last Congress (Repub controlled) was a do-nothing Congress (and I agree), but so is this one. They're just doing nothing differently.

What could be more important to our country than ending the needless deaths of our soldiers in a war that has not made us one bit safer? I hope they keep holding votes and keep up the pressure to change course. I want every Republican who continues to vote for this war to be on record.

If they do nothing the public forgets. By constantly chipping away more and more support comes their way and they can show the American people that they are working on their behalf. The people have indicated a desire to end the war and bring our people home. The Republicans and the President are standing in the way of that. The actions of the Democrats in Congress are simply measures to highlight and emphesise to the people who is standing in the way of the will of the people. The GOP will pay dearly in 2008 and probably 2010, 2012,2014,2016, 2018, and 2020. Maybe even in 2022 before they regain their status as a grand old party after what Bush and the neocons have done to them.

It reminds me of what the uber liberals did to the Democratic Party in the 1970's and 80's.

We need a major change in course, that Bush is unwilling to do.
He silenced Rummy when he was calling for one a long time ago. Remember what Rummy's job was?
They are passing all these non-binding resolutions, to show the American people that they are attempting to do what we elected them to do, without pulling funds that Bush and people like you would use to claim them weak on security.
They are sending a clear message to Mr. Bush, that the majority feels that there needs to be a change in course. Not only are the making it clear that congress believes so, but the American people, which is exactly what Bush is ignoring.
Ignore the demands of your boss for 6 years straight, and see what happens to you!

When you have a veto-happy prez like Bush in office it is rather difficult to pass any "controversial" resolutions which will garner the necessary 3/4 majority vote to over-ride the vetoes. A Democrat-controlled Congress is powerless to make any major changes when the majority of Republican "minority" members are devoted partisan lackeys who never consider questioning the prez on any issue whatsoever. This blind partisanship is very disturbing and dangerous to us all...

The Senate requires X amount of votes to overide a veto, so in essence the Republicans still control the debate.08 may change all that when Reps have to defend 21 Senate seats to the Dems 12.

A new website, myverdict.net, has been launched to find the majority opinion on every issue, for every community, from local level to international. It's free, anonymous, carries no ads and doesn't sell anything. Debate so far is reasoned and coherent and some important questions have been put to the vote.

Yes; I think we need a complete housecleaning in Washington -- it has been years since OUR elected officials actually represented Americans, rather than industry. Democrat or Republican, they all have turned their backs on us.

And I think anyone who knowingly tries to compare either political party with "terrorists" isn't helping America, either.

Yes we need a major one. Our Congress (Republicans/Dems) are very disappointing. The Southern Conservatives aren't bad though. The Northern Republicans are just libs in disguise sadly.
