If you like free enterprise, working for your own money, and keeping as much as you make, you are a Republican.
If you support universal healthcare, welfare, high taxes based on income, affirmative action, and any program that takes from the rich to give to the poor, or discriminates based on income, you are a Democrat. (Either one in office that dupes their constituents, or a voter who thinks their politician actually cares about them)
Also, if you favor gay rights, abortion on demand, and a spineless, French-like military policy, you are a Democrat.

I used to be a Republican. Then I started listening to Hannity and Limbaugh. That was enough to become a non-Republican. Not only that, there are so many Republicans that ask questions like "why do Liberals hate America"? I don't want to be associated with people that think like that.

Neither... Independent. I think one of the reasons there's so much corruption in both parties is because politicians know they can 'hide behind their party' and get elected that way. Many voters seem to affiliate with a party on a few ideological issues, then vote for that party's ticket knowing little to nothing about the individual candidates. That's just my opinion.

Democrat, old style. Not socialist. Patriot, first and foremost.
I'm a democrat because I believe and place of primary importance: free speech (for everyone including republican talk radio), equality (not special rights for special groups), free expression (including for Christian fundamentalists), and freedom of religion (including for atheists, wiccans, etc.).
I won't change despite the take-over of my party by socialism because I don't do that. I am loyal to the principles my party fought for, won, and made household values of. Someone has to stay and try to fight the slow slide into socialism.

if you hold a gun to my head, i'd say democrat, but more of a libertarian small government democrat, and the reason is that the areas in which the Dems seek to curtail liberty are less odious than the totalitarian right in the Republican party.

I'm neither. I lean slightly right of center. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = Liberal, 10 = Conservative), I put myself at about 6.5. The closest (politically) I can find is Libertarian, but I don't agree with 100% of what they say.
