I've lost count of the number of entries in this and various other groups about the McCanns apparently making a mint out of their daughter's disappearance and using it for personal gratification. My question is, given that the McCanns were undoubtedly criminally negligent in leaving their daughter unsupervised and unattended, should the monies not be sequestered by the UK govt and administered by them or perhaps by InterPol to cover the costs incurred so far in the search for this wee girl?

Gobilina: The parents did admit, early on in the history, that they left their daughter unattended and unsupervised. "Admit" is the key word and it is on this basis that I made the statement that you take issue with. I am not judge and jury; the McCanns have condemned themselves in the matter of criminal negligence. The whole question was more intended as a suggested means to stop the seemingly interminable accusations in these groups that they are seen to be living the life of Reilly on the back of people's big-heartedness.

I too am puzzled by this whole story Madeleine McCann story being kidnapped is certainly horrible, but why do the McCann's have their activities listed for the day on their website including the day care centre where their remaining children apparently spend a great deal of their time, should this be kept private to prevent copycat crimes.?
The question of all the money being raised and who is in charge of it and its dispersal is also a good one, perhaps the money is being used to support the McCann family while they search for their child because they certainly can't work and no matter what is happening in your life bills need to be paid and the rent or mortgage has to be paid every month

This argument has been exhausted and the same questions keep going round and round and nothing you have asked hasn't been asked numerous times before. NO BODY, so NO MURDER NO evidence or they would be guilty and behind bars thankfully we don't rely on hunches to put people away and accuse them of murder just because they seem like they have a secret. When and if the evidence comes to light to prove that she was murdered and it was by the parents (yeah right) THEN hang and quarter them and throw away the key. I don't think the MCcanns are capable of fooling all the police and investigators that have tried to solve this case, and even though there has been a lot in the press there will be other things that cannot be released by the police for confidentiality reasons. Not all the evidence and investigation results are made public.

They were not "undoubtedly criminally negligent". Why not wait and see if the Portuguese police bring any charges against the McCanns - something they have failed to do so far? This, of course, does not prove that they never will and that is not what I am trying to say.

If charges are brought alleging criminal negligence AND they are found guilty THEN you can say "beyond reasonable doubt" that they are guilty. Until then, you are just speculating based on incomplete information the accuracy of which you have absolutely no assurances of. And some just plain fabrication too, of course. Definitely no basis to reach a conclusion about something so serious.

The money in the fund was freely donated for stated purposes. The fund will be accountable under the law governing limited companies for how it spends the money donated. If any crime were to be committed in connection with the operation of the fund, the UK police would have jurisdiction to investigate.

Until such times as any of these events take place, questions like yours are just so much ill-intentioned speculation.

I agree with crazychic. I would never leave my kids alone. and would search for them until i dropped from exhaustion. I think that the parents should not gain financially from this tragedy. Poor Madeline. Social services should be involved. It must be illegal to leave young children unattended like that.

of course they were criminally negligent.
they left their children alone.
one of those children is now "missing".

As far as i am aware people thought the fund would be used to find Madeleine, not to fund the parents lifestyle.
If the Mcann's had a scrap of decency the money would be split between a child protection charity and a missing persons charity.

I certainly do not begrudge any money that it has cost in the actual search for this little girl ....I do think the parents should pay for THEIR own costs as lets be honest they havent even hired a car and actually gone out to look for her . holiday makers and locals did , but not her patrents to busy doing her hair in ribbons , and jogging on the beach to actually SEARCH for her ...... I would personally not put a brush on my hair or anything would of only slept when I dropped but I would of been looking .... saying that mine would not of been left alone so would of unlikely found themselves in poor Madeleines position .

no i dont think the money should be sequestered as presumably all the people donating knew exactly who they were donating too.

do have sympathy for the mcganns in as much as there daughter was taken. What i cant get out of my head is how frightened that little girl must have been all on her own that night and the parents will have to live with that thought forever. therefore it doesn't really matter i dont think how much money they have, and people did donate freely.

People should not be allowed to set up UK companies that ask for money for campaigns without them being registered and controlled charities - its a massive con - when will British authorities act?
