A lot of medications carry that warning because they haven't done sufficient research on the effects on bf'ing. Dr. Thomas Hale has been researching this for years and has published the nursing mother's answer to the PDR. If I were in your shoes I'd check it out, Dr. Hale's _Medications and Mothers' Milk 2006_ can be bought through his website, http://ibreastfeeding.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/172?osCsid=517096175b575076547ec9fd8d2e8af9 .

For a good online info, check out this page at kellymom.com: http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold-remedy.html - info on cold and allergy meds for bf'ing moms.

good luck!

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
Return to top

The effects of Deconamine during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, notify your doctor immediately. Deconamine appears in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment with Deconamine is finished.

the above is from this link please talk to your doctor

I have never heard of that drug-
Google deconomine and breastfeeding.

Here is what I found:
http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/dec1120.htm

At the bottom of the page- under breastfeeding- it says you should discontinue use if you are breastfeeding. Not good. Call your doctor and see if there is something else you can try- and make sure he/she knows you are breastfeeding.

Make sure that it's not something that will dry up your milk- most antihistamines do.

Never heard of it. Call and ask your dr. because you have to be very careful about what you take while breastfeeding; it may dry up your breastmilk. He may be able to prescribe you something else.

Call the pharmacist and ask him/her. This is too important to take the word of complete strangers. Or call and ask your doctor.
