Well, it's like the elephant in the living room basically. Everyone knows this is the case (that Islamic radicals are responsible for the vast majority of what we define as terrorism), and yet no one wants to say it (or can say it -- so they don't lose their jobs or get stigmatized as a bigot). But, yes, I mean I think it's pretty well noticed and understood in general by most non-Muslims (probably some Muslims too if they will admit it). I mean, you have had 11 Sept, 7 July, Madrid, Bali, not to mention all the blasts that have been going on (even up to just a few days ago) in Pakistan / Afghanistan, etc, all the terrorism that used to go on in Israel before they erected that wall. The list could go on. All of the nearly foiled terrorist attacks (Nigerian kid on the airplane last year Xmas Eve in America), the "shoe bomber", the liquids bomb plot to blow up planes midair over Atlantic coming from UK to US. Islam has a problem with violence, yes; certain aspects of its history and its doctrine (and certain aspects of its prophet's example) can easily be construed to condone or encourage violence or militancy with regards to today's geo-political situation(s). Just like Catholicism has a problem with pedophilia (and I say that as a Catholic myself -- it's just the truth, we have had a problem). Islam has a problem with violence coming from within its ranks. Yes, a small minority that are actually militant and then an even smaller minority that have the means and/or the courage to do something, but , it's been enough of a minority to give all Muslims this collective black eye they must now wear. They have no one to blame but fellow Muslims when people stereotype Muslims as radicals , or when people give a second look to those who wear Islamic dress, etc.

Michele G, your question should be more along the lines of "Should Islam be blamed for Al Quaeda" and the answer would be yes.

Since the 1300 Muslims have called the non-muslim world "Dar el-harb", the house of the sword, thereby designating it as fair game for conquest.

The reason why Islam is backward and wrong is because unlike christianity it does not separate the religous from the secular, until Islam does so, there will always be muslims becoming terrorists.

Muslims will try and tell you that between 750 and 1100, Islamic sicience and technology was superior to Europes at the time, ignoring the fact that it was mostly absorbed or stolen from other cultures through violence (See they have not really changed at all only their strategy is now changed, before it used to be a fatwa, sin for a muslim to live in a non muslim country, they have since changed that so they can try and conquer from within and by "peaceful" methods i.e to bred more).

some muslim scholars did keep knowledge alive but did not continue it forward, something was wrong with Islam, Islamic science was denounced as heresy by religous zealots (again they have not changed) and it bent under theological pressures for spiritual conformity. For Militant Islam since 750 and to THIS PRESENT DAY the "truth" according to them has already been revealed. What led back to the truth was useful and permissible, all the rest was error and deceit. Even the Muslim scholar and Historian Ibn Khaldun, whlst conservative in religous issues was nonetheless dismayed by Muslim ignorance and hostility to learning.

When **Muslims invaded and stole Persia (637-642) (You can basically say they have no right to be in most of the middle east at all, and especially have no right to be in Isreal), they came upon an indescribably large amount of books and scientific papers, (Thank godness half of the ancient library of Alexandra was saved from these ignorant people). Sa'd bin Abi Waqqa wrote to Umar bin al-khattab asking him for permission to take them and distribute them as booty among the muslims. On that occasion, Umar wrote him "Throw them in the water, if what they contain is right guidance, God has given us better guidance. If it is error, God has protected us against it".

** so when muslims conquered most of what is called muslim lands today, stealing it from existing cultures by the sword and thus by their reasoning it justifys them being there, then surely the Isreali's taking BACK what is rightfully theirs by the sword by the same equasion should mean the muslims should shut up and get out, get on with their lives, they have bascially plenty of other countries still and the jews have ONLY ONE, theirs, rightfully theirs ISRAEL.

I can't blame the religion but I do blame the followers of today for not standing up to the terrorists if they do truly believe their religion is one of peace. Its just like someone taught me as a youth if I heard the "n" word from anyone especially a friend I should speak up and tell them how wrong the word was. If I didn't I was no better than the person spouting the evil word. Its times for all worshipers of the Islamic faith who believe their religion can live in peace in the western world with Christianity and Judaism to speak up against the terrorists.

Most of the people that answered this question need to really learn something about Islam. You people are so misinformed it is not funny. You think the Mohammad down the road is not a terrorist because you know him and he has no bomb strapped around his waist. That is because he has not been told to do it yet. To be a good Muslim you have to do what you are told. You can lie to an infidel and it is not a lie. You can kill in the name of Allah and it is not a crime. The list goes on and on. WTFU. Islam will only be happy when you bow to the east 5 times a day.

Because not all terrorists are muslims. Look at Timothy McVeigh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_mcveigh the Zodia Killer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac_killer, the Unabomber http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unabomber, and the IRA for examples http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Republican_Army Not all serial killers are white either - that is very wrong with the Beltway sniper attacks being the most famous (or infamous) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beltway_sniper_attacks You seem to have a very narrow view on things. Who is your high school history teacher - I would like to know where he/she screwed up with you or that you just didn't care enough to pay attention.

Islam is involved in modern terrorism, but it cannot be blamed all by itself for creating it.

Good Luck!!!

When the terrorists claim to follow Islam, it's pretty easy to blame Islam. They themselves say it is what is driving their actions, regardless if it is "true" Islam or not.

Michelle, you make some good points!! I am sick of this political correctness. We are at war with Islamic Fundamentalist Radicals who use terrorism as a tactic to defeat their enemies. Muslims didn't invent terrorism and most Muslims are good people, but Jihad is based on the Koran. That is a fact which no one can deny!

All I can say to that,is as I look around the world I have yet to see anywhere where the Islamic ideology has spread anything but intolerance, hatred, oppression and death. That is what Islam is to me. I have yet to be shown where it has ever spread that it has improved the conditions of any human being.

MOST terrorists are, in fact, Islamic Fundamentalists. It is not something to argue with, it is not an opinion. It is a statistical fact. Like you said, of course we have our serial killers, Eric Harris and Dillan Kleebold, Timothy McVay, the Washington D.C. snipers and copycats, etc. HOWEVER, as I stated before, MOST terrorists are Islamic Fundamentalists. Simply because self sacrifice and killing infidels in the name of Allah is considered one of their greatest accomplishments.

Remember, she said most terrorists are Islamic. NOT most Islams are terrorists.

Aviator: The D.C. snipers were black. Also, the things you listed had nothing to do with killing in the name of religion.

there is no question that when we talk about the threat of world wide terror..and terror against our country,we are talking about radical islamists.

It does not mean that all islam wants to get us.

But imagine this .....if you are some arabic islamist kid living in Iraq or other midwestern country...and imagine how easily it is to grow up hating the United States for .......well......if you simply watch TV, every time you turn on the news, it gets reinforced into you that the United States is killing muslims left and right and is invaving muslim countries and threatening to invade others.

Imagine how easy it is to be recruited by a terror group,

My point is that while there is no question it is islamics who want to do those bad things to us...the real question is why???? and what part of that why is within our control?

I know that because I dont take a neanderthal like view to all this....that some of my own fellow citizens will call me a traitor and terrorist sympathizer, but I do not sympathize with terrorists, and I think they are criminals that should be brought to justice, but I also am informed and understand fully how they can grow up to think the USA is their enemy and be brainwashed into doing harm to americans.
