You know how on those cop shows, they get the IP address and then can find the physical address of someone? Can that really be done and, if so, how?

IP addresses are assigned in block ranges to a particular ISP. Once you know the IP address, you obtain a court order to present to the ISP and they have a record of the account holder and their address. I'm sure you could find a thorough writeup on the RIAA website discussing how they take the IP address and go through a process to find out who is pirating music.

I think the simplest way would be to take the IP... brak into the computer, and then figure out the address from there. I guarantee it's in there somewhere.
