Being the best at your school and in your neighborhood can still leave you on unemployment in Los Angeles and NYC... you need to train and prepare seriously. It's not about fame, money, or how many people know you in the world. It's about love for the craft. The art and techniques of acting.
A few of us here have actual real experience. You become 'known' by sheer dumb luck. You happen to get a role in a show or a film that makes it big and you never know ahead of time what will be a big hit or a big flop that you wish you were never in. That's the business!
Get into acting classes. You need improv, scene study and preferably some on camera stuff. You also need to build a real resume. You can start with theatre and student films, but you need to eventually work your way up to more.
Once you have some real credits you can try to get an agent. If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)
Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.
Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. You can also see if your state has a film alliance. Sometimes they post audition information for projects filming locally. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying. **Remember that legit agents take 10% of your pay AFTER they help get you a job, nothing up front or it's a scam.
Seriously, be real about the work that it takes to succeed. Just wanting to be known is not nearly enough. Work hard and show your friends! They'll be banging down your door if you succeed :-)
good luck

It isn't for the faint of heart, it isn't easy. Jordan, do your best in school, prepare for college or university, choose a university with a NAME for teaching theatre, or film, and prepare, prepare, prepare: eat the right foods, exercise, get good sleep, find an amateur theatre company in your town and volunteer, make yourself available, audition, read all of the plays and screenplays you can put your hands on, see all the plays you can and study film from the b/w silents to the present, find a voice coach, strengthen your speaking voice, learn to relax your throat, to project, as you mature take care of your skin and hair, your teeth and eyes. Give it everything you've got in college: not only acting classes but also tech stuff (the theatre world is changing in that regard), back stage work, props, costumes, box office, lights, sound, stage manage. Those are the initial steps, and then the hard work begins, and what it is, will come to you. And you'll be prepared, you'll be ready and not just another wannabe. Good luck to you, Jordan.

You want fame?
The best actors concentrate on the work that they do, not their reputations.
Gain experience before you increase the size of your ego. Do small parts, challenging new works, fringe theatre, pay your dues. And then, when you are sufficiently humble, get an agent.

I suppose agents will play a big role in this.
I have a similar dream myself, although I'm not too keen on being world-famous. I just want to act and be good at it.
