I interpret this statement to mean: Thanks for helping this guy. Although a bit quirky, he's very intelligent. Many of us are doing our best to guide him.

I would have a word with the teacher over this statement. 'Hes a little different' suggests a bit of discrimination going on. Everybody deserves to be treat as an individual that statement suggests you are not normal as a person.

As a teacher offering feedback or comment on a person the remarks should neither be a surprise as in they are better than you expect nor a surprise in that they are worse than you expect, if they are confusing then they are trying say something else in a round about way.

Be diplomatic in your approach it is easy to see the bad side of things this may mean nothing bad and could just be down to bad wording, even if its explained I would ask for a redraft of the statement.

As a teacher, I believe with all my heart that a statement such as this demands that the person ask the TEACHER who made the statement. The only thing 'we' as the community can do is 'guess' and make innuendos about what this teacher could have meant. We might be wrong altogether. I would not like to make a snap judgment however, I would say that it is important that teachers watch the 'words' they use in describing students. Those 'labels' can be emotionally, mentally and forevermore - hurtful.

It really means that as far as possible you must keep the company of that guy as he has the behaviour and the kind of talents which are approved by the teacher.
