It's really hard to pick just one, being that most of them were really good, or most of them had at least one really good "hit". I think the 80's had more "One Hit Wonders" then any other era.

Here is a small list of really good bands/singers that had good hits in the 80's.

Flock Of Seagulls (I ran)
Katrina and The Waves (Walking On Sunshine)
Jefferson Starship (Nothing's Gonna Stop Us)
Toni Basil (Hey Mickey)
Wang Chung (Everybody Have Fun Tonight)
The Boomtown Rats (I Don't Like Mondays)
Falco (Rock Me Amadeus)
Steve Miller Band (Abracadabra)

And everyone is gonna hate this but NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK were very big in the 80's! lol Sorry

And there are too many more to name, because I would be stuck answering this question for the next few hours. lol

Take Care

Freddie Mercury was the greatest singer of the 80s.

I would vote The Stone Roses as the greatest band of the 80s because of their debut album. Nothing touches it from that era even now.

I'm a big fan of The Kids from Fame, but you would have pretty good arguments for Madonna, Queen, Prince, Michael Jackson or anyone who came from Stock, Aiken and Waterman's studios.

Whoever is the greatest, the 80's rule!
