There are a few that might qualify. "Gone With The Wind" was a great novel about the Civil War, an epic story about life on a fictional plantation in the South before, during, and after the war, and it became a great movie. Some critics have called it the greatest American movie ever made. I also like "San Francisco", a film about the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 and how that event effected some characters' lives. "Stagecoach" was an epic western. "How The West Was Won" was also an epic story of the settlement and development of the American West. And the novel "Centennial" by the great author James Michener is a magnificent story of the development of the west. Another great Michener book that could qualify is "Hawaii".
