This happened to me a few months back. I only found out the week after he phoned. Isn't that breaching patient confidentiality and the Data Protection Act? This is really upsetting for me.

If phone calls are recorded for training purposes data protection states that you should be notified, these messages are regularly heard when you phone call centres e.t.c.
Doctors however are a little different, these days doctors try numerous things that make their work more efficient and regardless of anything being recorded it is all bound by the Doctor patient confidentiality agreement so all details are safe.
You could mention that you were not aware they recorded conversations and would suggest that it should be made more clear to patients but you may find its somewhere in their Terms of Business.
