I mean, he has fruit flies and roaches in the bathroom, food in his fridge from before I divorced him in March, there is a bra on my 8 year old floor and no females live there, my 8 year old has a broken window, no sheets on his bed, his mattress is askew, and there is a hole in his ceiling. My 11 year old has cat litter all over his floor. (they dont own a cat.) there is rotton food under their computer desk where their pomeranian lives on a rope tied to the desk. There is mold growing in their food cabinet. I called CPS once, and they had their church come in and clean their house spotless. They let it get messy again. When I called CPS again they thought I was just a bitter ex wife. Any ideas??

Call them back and don't leave your name. Don't even tell them who you are or make up a different name. Have a friend call. If possible take a camera and snap a picture when his back is turned.

Even if you don't leave your name they are suppose to investigate. Eventually the church will get tired of cleaning his nasty house.

CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES did not do their job if they had someone clean it. That didn't last very long and your children were put right back into that unsanitary, unhealthy environment. Call them again and tell them you need protection for your children, not an opinion about your status as ex-wife. If they do not take appropriate action this time, take it to court. If you absolutely cannot do this, call your congressman to advocate for you. No child should be allowed, much less forced, to be staying in such surroundings. And if you are bitter, it's not hard to see why. Your ex husband must not care much about the well-being of his children.

Have your relatives call in for you too, and if you know any of his relatives that might still be okay with you, have them call too, it makes a difference if more than one person can back up a claim. and I know this sounds kind of stupid, but if your kids live there and this lazy jerk doesn't want to clean, maybe you are better off cleaning if CPS wont come through, especially if you know your kids are there, they could get sick, and you are only doing it for their well being, don't think of it as you are doing it for him, but try CPS again first before you go to this extreme.

How about the health department. They usually conduct surprise visits. Also the Humane Society, re: the treatment of the dog.

Be careful, you are going to be labelled a bitter ex-wife..because you are.

Dirt won't kill your kids. Teach them to clean their rooms at your ex's house. If you have custody, you have a lot of influence. Model behaviour for them without trying to turn them into neat freaks or they will hate you and run to the dirty house.

What is important is how the kids feel after they have been there. Loved? Cared for (better than the house)? Does your ex spend time with them?

If yes to these questions...back off.

Talk to your lawyer about it, and threaten your husband. Tell him until he gets a maid, or cleans up his filth, your kids are not coming over. They are not learning any valuable lessons about being responsible by being with him. And keep calling Social Services. I would call every day until they took me seriously, because this is your children we are talking about. And tell them you are only concerned about them.
If you can, try to get some pictures of the bad areas as well. They may could be used in court if you have another custody hearing in the future.

1. Report him to the ASPCA.
2. Have the children take a small camera to take pictures of the squalor that they are expected to stay in. The eleven year-old can be taught to take the pics and tell him EXACTLY what to take pictures of.
3. Take the pics down to the CPS and report him again with your proof.
4. Keep pics to give to your attorney. Send copies to his attorney with a letter from your attorney stating that these pics will be presented as evidence to the court to have him allowed only supervised visitation with the children unless he cleans up his act and keeps it clean.
5. Provide the children with a camera for EACH visit. Date the pics. If you don't see an improvement, file to modify the terms of custody. No child, or animal, should live in those conditions. He is a sick, sad man.

Good luck, hon, to you and the kids!!

If he is not paying child support he should not be allowed to see the children at all. An attached garage I MIGHT consider ok but not a detached garage, any one could break in their without any one in the house knowing. You might want to talk social services about how they feel about a garage as housing. Hope this works out.

Call CPS again and ask that they do a surprise inspection. Or call the police and have them bring a CPS person along. That is a dangerous environment for your children, and the best way to protect them is to not let them go there.

Don't let the kids stay there. I admit, my house gets untidy but what you have said is just plain filth. How disgusting, I see these houses on tv, how can they live like that? Report him.

Have a few friends call CPS and say they were visiting him, and are horrified by the conditions. Or, call the police, anonymously and say you were walking by and smelled just terrible smells, and it seems like one of those places that you read about where they have hundreds of animals living in complete filth.
