VA head quits amid scrutiny on vets care

VA Secretary Jim Nicholson abruptly resigned Tuesday after months of the Bush administration struggling to defend charges of shoddy health care for veterans injured in the Iraq war.

Nicholson, 69, is the latest in a line of senior officials heading for the exits in the final 1 1/2 years of the Bush administration.

His resignation comes amid intense political and public scrutiny of the Pentagon and VA following reports of shoddy outpatient care of injured troops and veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and elsewhere.

Walter Reed is a Pentagon-run facility, but charges of poor treatment relating to poor coordination quickly extended to the VA‘s vast network of 1,400 hospitals and clinics. The VA also has a severe backlog of disability payments to injured veterans, with overwhelming delays of 177 days that Nicholson has called unacceptable.

Surprised? I'm not.

Just another sign of a job well done, right Cons?

Babe, don't you think.. for just one second.. that LIBERALS.. by any measure the more caring/tolerant party ACTUALLY CARE about how our troops are being taken care of?

Half of our troops are Liberals (or democrats at least) !

Couldn't it be that we actually care about the troops and Bush administration has mistreated them? Shouldn't Bush have had a plan on how to take care of the young people he sent to war!!!!!

Where is your outrage?

Here's the reality kids. This man has had a brilliant career and has only been in the position for 2 years. Two years to clean up decades of Government trash. Not a whole lot of time. He is not making enough money to put up with the whiny *** liberals who in reality couldn't give **** if a veteran lived or died unless it would embarrass President Bush. They will perhaps bring in a talker and not damn thing will get done, but the ignorant left will be pleased.

Most old people step down from most positions before they fall down. You really have no question from what I see and you only copied your question without citing reference. Is this a trait of some on the left or are you just not that intelligent.

Anyway, how is this exactly a good or bad thing anyway?

Political bigotry is alive and well.

You seem to forget the huge funding drop produced by my own party during President Clinton's terms. This was not helpful.

However, it was one of many factors, not President Clinton's fault.

That's just silly, as silly as blaming all conservatives for this situation, wouldn't you say?

Hating half of America isn't cool. Protesting their policies respectfully can be very cool.

It must be hard to be a Con these days.
We should pity the decent ones. (The ones who want the GOP to 'survive' Bush)
