Well yesterday it started I went to the DR and he told me I was measuring at 39 weeks (I am 36) and I probably won't go full term. But then not a change in my cervix and my baby hasn't dropped all the way down yet, even though I have an extreme amount of pressure! I got home from work last night and my dogs got out so I had to run around and catch them, lol. I didn't think I'd be able to run this big until last night, I didn't want them to get hit by a car. ANYWAY, after I got them I was having serious contractions I thought for sure that put me in labor. I got some water and started walking with my daughter around the neighborhood. I was timing them at 4 mins or so apart and each one hurt like hell. So I called my mother in law and told her to get ready, I went home and relaxed for a little while still getting them. But then all of a sudden they started dying down and I was just cramping. And then NOTHING. What happened? I thought I was going to have a baby! What does this all mean?

Basically, you are just having a lot of strong and regular Braxton-Hicks contractions. You might call this "pre-labor."

You are probably going to go into real labor in just a few days. I had an experience similar to yours. One day I was having so many BH contractions (they were painful and pretty regular) that I was sure I was in labor and went to the birthing center, but eventually they subsided.

The next morning I woke up and it was "the real thing" - my waters had broken and the contractions were much more painful.

With such strong and regular practice contractions your body is definitely toning for labor, and your cervix is likely dilating and effacing, too, which might shorten some of the stages of labor for you.

You will be holding your baby soon!

The pressure may have been the braxton hicks. It sounds like to me that the severe contractions was caused by all the running to catch your dogs. It could have been the start of preterm labor but you rested and it went away.

This happened to me with my 2nd. When I was about 38 weeks I actually went into hospital and they kept me there for 16hrs and then they just faded away and finally stopped. I then ended up going 5 days overdue. Good luck.
