I am 38 weeks pregnant and we know the baby has a single umbilical artery. I just had an ultrasound and the baby is measuring at 36 weeks. Is this a problem?

FYI - There are supposed to be 2 arteries and 1 vein. The 2 arteries carry nutrition to the baby, the vein removes waste.

Single umbilical artery is a very common malformation. Most babies with this condition are born healthy. Some are born a little smaller than usual but still a healthy weight.

I would not worry about measuring small, either. Sometimes this is due to mistakes in the ultrasounds (it is not a perfect science) or your due date might be off a week or two (most women don't really know exactly when they conceived).

oftentimes the umbilical twine has 2 arteries and a vein, noted as a three vessel twine. each and every now and then in straightforward terms 2 vessles (a million artery or a million vein) are considered. it somewhat is noted as a single umbilical artery or SUA. whilst this looking could be linked with some abnormalities it is likewise considered in customary healthy little ones. If it somewhat is the only "looking" then there is in all probability not something to rigidity approximately. Your primary practitioner would do addtitional checking out and/or save on with you greater heavily. listed right here are the stats: 0.80 5% of all little ones have a 2 vessel twine. of those 34% would have boost retardation, and 17% will supply preterm. additionally, 30% would have congenital malformations (approximately 0.5 with substantial illness, approximately 0.5 with minor illness) and an excellent variety of of those would have a genetic illness. So the possibility of a few thing incorrect is decrease than a million%! attempt to not worry too a lot. communicate on your primary practitioner approximately your concerns.

There is only one umbilical artery. Slow growth of the baby is sometime associated with poor nutrition, smoking , drinking alcohol and pregnancy induced hypertension or eclampsia.
