I have a tach for a car that will work with 4,6,8, cyl motors. but don't know if it will work on a 2 cycle 4 cyl boat motor.

it should if connected properly. however, you don't specify the year model engine and therefore to be safe you should consult your local boat dealer as it is possible it could cause ignition system damage on a computer controlled system

Don't see why you couldn't do it. Swap out and re-use the parts from the marine motor and it should be OK provided the engine rotates in the same direction as the marine motor. I had a 18 ft. Raysoncraft flatbottom race boat....... and used a Dodge 440 magnum out of a 1969 Chrysler Imperial with no problems.

The 2 cycle engine fires the plugs once every revolution, a car, which is a 4 cycle engine, fires them once every other revolution, so I would guess that the RPM's would be off by a factor of 2.

As long as there's a tach signal that the tach is calibrated for (meaning analog or digital), it will work fine. It being a 2-stroke doesn't matter.

No it has different coils on the marine Eng might blow the computer,Use the correct tack for the correct Eng
