When I feel that when I have problems with anything in my life, it seems to stem from the fact that I don't relax. I think too much. How do I learn to just relax? I know that if I just relaxed, I would have more fun with my friends, not be worried about what people thought about me, or talk to anyone I felt like (especially women at my college).

AHH! You're thinking too much right now by asking questions on YA about it! Stop thinking about why you can't relax and do something you enjoy. Don't worry about what other people are thinking when you talk to them, chances are this will make the conversation MORE awkward.

relaxation is an art . and yoga and meditation are excellent places to start .
it really does not have to be a daunting process either .
some are put off by the word meditation . and can imagine it takes years to perfect . true to some extent but to use it effectivley in daily life you can start today and feel immediate effects.
find a quiet room where you will not be disturbed and take a comfortable position possibly lying down,
breath in deeply and hold the breath for a few seconds before slowly exhaling . repeat this a couple more times .
continue breathing slowly but comfortably close your eyes and feel the stress and strain of the day released simply as you quietly remain . breathing in and out . be aware of your breathing but do not concentrate on it ,.
as you feel the relaxing effects as your muscles relax your face eyes arms legs et cetera . imagine and feel that you are releasing all of your aches and pains both mental and physical. do this for 15 - 20 mins every day and i assure you you will then know how to relax . the nest step is bringing into your daily life which is also possible to do .
woman at college . do you feel that they are in some way better than you ? because they are surely not . by talking to them what is the very worst that can happen ? is it possible that by expecting a response less freiendly than you need you involantarily evoke that repsonse in others . ?
doesnt it seem that the guys doing all the laughing joking and letting their hair down get all the attention from others . ? indeed it is so. why? because they are displaying what we wish we could be . they are showing that they have no cares . or it would appear so . many are covering insecurities with outlandish or overly confident behaviour . some are of course confident in themsleves . they are no different to you it is just there way of chosing to express themselves , it is your choice how you present yourself to others . if you are fustrated with the way that you deal with people . then change it ,
it is not good communication when the one of the two is thinking only of how they appear to be to others and not on the content of the conversation . if you open yourself to what others have to say and are interested in what is being said and dont concentrate solely on yourown self . you will naturaly loose obver time the overly worried concscious mind,

A quick and easy way to slow yourself down and gain control of your thoughts is to take a really deep breath, hold it in for a few seconds, then let it out - very slowly and deliberately. Doing this two or three times each time you need it, might be enough to redirect your energy.

Turn your problem around. What's the opposite of relaxing? Stressing. When you bring your stress level down, it will be easier to relax.

I recommend you go for some therapeutic massage. If you can afford it, it is a good way to relax. Pick a good masseuse, someone you want to talk to, someone you want to touch you, and completely relax with her. Talk to her and be yourself.
This is very therapeutic. It is therapeutic in more ways than one!
