My dictionary is my most commonly opened book. I have had it at least 25 years and it's held together with tape. I have moved around the place a lot and it always has pride of place on my shelf. Its a bit like an old friend and I wouldn't think of replacing it.

Gram_stainer, I have two sets of the Outlander series, one in hard back for myself, and paperback for loaner copies.
There is a new Lord John coming out at the end of August.

Oh, yay! Another Outlander series fan!!! lol ;o) I've actually done that to her book, "Voyager" - I've had to resort to making sure I don't loose any of the pages that have fallen out, so I've put it together with a rubber band, as well as trying to tape the binding back together. "Drums of Autumn" is nearly falling apart as well, and "The Fiery Cross" is starting to show signs of wear as well. The only books of hers, from that series, that are still in good shape are "Outlander", and "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" - but only because I have that last one in hardback. ;o) I can't wait until her next one comes out - I'm so looking forward to what happens with Jamie, and Claire, and especially when Jamie's son finally learns who his real father is., Eek! lol ;o)
I've also worn out quite a few other books. I've actually got four copies of Stephen Kinds "The Stand", and all but one of them are completely thrashed, because I tend to read that book so much.

Yes. In fact, in the 40 years since I first read Gone With The Wind I have gone through 2 copies. I still have a crush on Rhett Butler.

Drums of Autumn is getting ratty for me (on the other hand, i think I bought it 2nd hand). Had to replace all 3 books of Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey, and I do have a few more that I have to tape the front covers back on: Legacy by Kay, Quest for St Camber by Kurtz, Dragonsdawn by McCaffrey, etc. And I did have one that had cruddy glue holding it in the cover, too.
All paperbacks, of course.
And like simonetta, a lot of my books do bear other scars--dogears, a little food, bent covers from being bounced about in my bag, and so on.

Nope...
because I am extracareful and just love them, my little paperbacks all glooming on the shelves! But almost all of them have "scars" like stains of food... because I read while having breakfast and it is too early in the morning to be awake and capable of co-ordination!!
