Animals are territorial based on instinct. They are competitive for food sources etc for survival. But do they feel emotions such as jealousy? No I doubt it. Although I suppose anything is possible... I know that pets feel love and affection so I suppose they could experience negative emotions as well...When there is more than one pet in the home one may become jealous of the other, but again this may just stem from the instinct to be territorial...

I certainly know that when I pet one of my daughter's dogs, the other want me to pet her. Or our cat is upset when we come home smelling like a dog. Is that jealousy? Probably. But I don't think that they look at a bird and wish that they could fly. They wish that it couldn't fly so they could catch it.

I don't think it -- I know it. Animals have as much or more jealousy as humans do. Their emotions are simpler, less complex, and jealousy is a prevalent emotion in animals.
I have several dogs inside and one outside. The inside dogs were raised together, and are used to 'share' my wife and I. The inside dog since he was a baby has had us to himself.
When he is inside in bad weather or when having his bath, he attacks anyone that wants attention from me. That is why he is outside normally.

Of course animals get jealous! Haven't you been following the cartoon strip "Garfield?"
Garfield is giving Jon nothing but grief because he's jealous over the relationship between Jon and Liz. Now, Garfield isn't eating and that is abnormal for him.
Tune in for tomorrow's episode . . .

Of course! In many documentaries, you'll see that many wild animals fight for their loved ones. For instance, a fox can fight another when the other approaches its female. You'll get some details on dogs on http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1723133.hmt

I know from our little dogs that they surely do! If one of them gets more attention, the others will watch and then pounce and attack - playfully, of course, or try to get in the middle and get the attention for themselves. This can be if my hubby and I pay attention to one another, or to one of them. I have photos of him playing with one, and the other watching and wanting to get in there and be playing, too!

Absolutely animals feel jealousy. I've seen it in my own cats. One of them will get ticked off if they feel they've been slighted if more attention is paid to my son then them.

Animals definetely get jealous; my dog goes nuts when one of 'her people' pets any other animal.

I don't think they get jealous that way!
They get jealous only in the way of affections.
