My 15 year old daughter has one breast that is significantly (and noticably) larger than the other one. She is very uncomfortable with her look because of it.I am pretty sure she will want surgery to even them out someday. I just am not sure which type of doctor to take her to now to have them looked at. Do I take her to her regular MD or to I start with finding a plastic surgeon? She will have 2 insurances until she is 18 then her birth father won't legally have to cover her anymore. I'd like to get it done before then. How old will she have to be go get the surgery?

see her pediatrician, he can lead you in the right direction :)

if he doesnt help, take her to your gynecologist, and he can help you get started.

let me ask you first, how substantial is the size difference? I have Poland Syndrome, which is rarely talked about, not sure why. I have it and my nephew has it as well. I had no idea there was even a problem until I went through puberty and only one breast really developed. I had an A on one side and a D on the other. This is very typical for females who have Polands. I wish someone had known about it, I had seen several doc's and they all kept saying that it was normal and it would correct itself in time. By the time I was 24, and distraught by the whole thing, I went to a plastic surgeon who diagnosed me with Polands, and my insurance covered my breast implant surgery to fix it. You may want to check into Polands ...http://groups.msn.com/PolandsSyndromesupportwelcome/_homepage.msnw?pgmarket=en-au

This is very common in girls and women. My neice's sister-in-law had the same problem. She is 22 years old and was really bothered by this problem. She went to a plastic surgeon and had a breast implant done to even them out. The surgery was a success and she feels so much more confident about herself now. I would suggest you make a consoltation appointment with a plastic surgeon to see what your options are.

Good Luck!

It depends on the Dr. some plastic surgeons want to wait to see what happens with her growth and some will do the procedure right away. Find a couple and have consults with them to see what they think.

This is very common and normal.

My breasts were very different sizes until I turned 32 and had a breast reduction.

Talk to your family doctor first before doing anything. Then she might have to wait till she is 18 or so.
