Jamaican American.

You can be both American and Jamaican if you have dual citizenship and two passports. Like me. I'm a gay dude and bi-citizen. On Monday's I prefer to be Italian and stay that way until Thursday. Then Friday I'm an American until 5 pm. Then at 8 pm I pick Italian again because it's more fun to be Italian at night and into the weekends.

It's up to you. Like someone else said, you are American with Jamaican parents. Jamaican American sounds like the PC way of putting it. You didn't say if your parents were black or white but I'm assuming they are black since you mentioned being called African. I suppose you could call yourself African if you want to refer back to ancestors from long ago who came from Africa but that would just confuse people.

I have a friend who's parents were born in Haiti. She calls herself Haitian when asked even though she was born in the US. Strangely, she does not consider herself "black" because she says 'American blacks' are different since they have a different history. When she's being all politically correct about it, she says Haitian American even though she's just a regular American.

You are American, with Jamaican parents. That's how it works here, if you are born here you have dibs on being an American. If you don't want to be an American, you could also call yourself Jamaican, but truly you are an American.

I go by American, even though I'm like a mix of 5 or 6 European cultures. But there really is no defined "American", since there are so many different cultures.

There is no such thing as a hyphenated American. You either are or are not an American. Your choice.
