Mine is 6-8 inches from the water meter outside @ the curb. It's not going to look like a handle, but more like a flat piece that you will need pliers or an actual meter key for.

Find your water meter. There will be at least one valve there. The "handle" may just look like a raised bar. When the bar lines up with the water line, it is open. When the bar goes across the direction of the line, it is closed. A cresent wrench will usually work for turning it.

If you have a slab look in the garage. It is usually in the wall.

Also, to cut off from the outside, look around the perimeter of your property/house for a covered box that is buried with only the top showing. Inside the box is a cut-off valve for your water.

Usually in the basement or crawl space. If you have a slab foundation, will be under a sink or perhaps near the hot water heater.

mine is in my basement, but there are 2 of them, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, i wish i could tell you where yours is, but i would have to find it in your basement. mine are attached to pipes in the basement ceiling. good luck!!
