My neighbour asked me to ask this!

I said "don't be stupid - of couse they have..."

When I reeled off a whole list of things he gave me the reply that these were all "imported" ideas claimed by an American!

Oh and he also said "Don't call them REDNECKS!"

Still not sure..

What did Bill Gates actually, personally invent?

And Edison wasn't he more of a developer and prolific patent applier. Just checked about the lightbulb on about.com and they say

"Thomas Edison's greatest challenge was the development of a practical incandescent, electric light. Contrary to popular belief, he didn't "invent" the lightbulb, but rather he improved upon a 50-year-old idea." - See, maybe my neighbour is right?

*Henry sampson: gamma electric cell, the crucial component which makes cell phones able to make calls on the go, so without it, cell phones would not be. Check this one please!
Dr. Jack G. Copeland: artificial heart (so good that it is no longer used)
Samuel F. B. Morse: inventer of "morse code" (given)
first Computer (See Babbage)
*LATIMER, LEWIS H: (Mentioned see Edison).

I think that the main point of this is that everyone would like to think that their country invented the....whatever, and history has been manipulated to suit.

I have nothing against Americans and neither does my neighbour (so I can't send him to Iran - a++hole). It's just somethings are not as you think!

Hi Jon

Maybe I am an idiot! However, I can spell (or use the spell-checker) and punctuate correctly (unlike you - dumb-@ss)

I chose the American (with a capital - respect) theme to try to indicate/provoke the idea that...are you ready for this (I doubt it very much)...what we are taught from a very early age is not always correct.

It's good to take a step backwards (which I am sure comes as second nature to you) and look at the preconceptions that we ALL take as given.

Please note that when I first encountered this question..I said "don't be stupid - of course they have". The reality is that they haven't actually INVENTED as much as they have been taught that they (as a nation) have.

I do not class race/creed any differently (unlike some folk who think that it is an issue).

This is about what people think because that is what they have been told.

Who is the idiot - the one who accepts a false truth or the one who questions because they think. END-wound up!!

probably no longer something extensive. Alexander Graham Bell became Scottish, and he did maximum of his artwork in Canada. Oh, and the Wright Brothers did no longer invent the airplane. Santos Dumont did.
