my son found a sump pump sitting in our bastement when we lived in Wisconsin, he made me a water fall from it, , that would give you 1 heck of a fountain, look for a smaller one maybe, it worked great

It need not be a compressor at all... BUT why not salvage an existing PUMP like the one suggested, or a washing machine pump, or just purchase one. Miniature suggests otherwise however.

You'd need a SEALED pump motor, an impeller, inlet and outlet ports; and all of it seems too labor and expense intensive, in my mind? No Offense

If your in the USA - you should be able to go into KMart or WalMart and buy a small swimming pool that comes with a waterpump. They are going on sale now because of the end of summer and putting out the school supplies.

You should be able to get one for around $30-$40.

It's always nice to reuse something. If what you really want is a pump for a small fountain, check out the local thrift stores for a used aquarium pump. Those are sealed, submersible, and pretty reliable. And it keeps them out of the landfill!
