The fermentation of glucose to produce ethyl alcohol may be represented by the equation:

Determine the grams of glucose (C6H12O6) required to produce 500 mL of 2.5M ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH).

I will give you the outline but not the answer; do your homework.

500 ml of 2.5 M ethanol = 500 ml x 2.5 mmole / ml = 2.5 x 500 mmole ethanol.

Now balance the equation - you can do this

Now ratio mmoles ethanol to glucose from the balanced equation coefficients; I will assume herein x moles glucose makes y moles ethanol and you need to figure out x and y

mmole glucose/mmole ethanol = x/y

therefore mmoles glucose = x (mmoles ethanol made)/y

and from mol. weight of glucose, which you can determine you have the answer.
