Don't get busted!

People DO get caught stealing "stuff" using P2P filesharing programs such as Limewire, Kazza etc, and face large fines.

People as young as 12 years old.

"The music industry has turned its big legal guns on Internet music-swappers — including a 12-year-old New York City girl who thought downloading songs was fun."

"Brianna LaHara said she was frightened to learn she was among the hundreds of people sued yesterday by giant music companies in federal courts around the country."

"I got really scared. My stomach is all turning," Brianna said last night at the city Housing Authority apartment where she lives with her mom and her 9-year-old brother."

Think of Limewire as being like a gun. It is legal to own a gun, but illegal to use it to rob a 7-11.

It is legal to own Limewire and to share your own files. But it is illegal to use it to steal someone elses copyrighted material.

The program is legal. The way most people USE the program is not.

It is if you trade copyrighted stuff. For things you make (the idea behind limewire) it's OK.

Limewire is legal.

It's illegal to download/upload copyrighted files if you don't own the copyright or have the copyright owners permission.

It depends on what you use the program for and in which country you live and it doesn't make the software illegal but your actions.
If you use it to download and share copyrighted material then you are doing illegal business otherwise you're fine!

As a tool, no.

But using it to steal copies of software is... if they are licensed. Or music. Or pictures. or anything else that is not free for copying legally.
