There is an old saying "the eyes mirror the soul". Happy people, generally have happy, sparkling eyes, unhappy people have just the opposite. The shine goes away when something in the person's life happens that is extremely hurtful or damaging to their inner being and can last for a long period of time. Sometimes people cannot recover from the blow they have been dealt and spend the rest of their lives with un-shiny eyes. Sad but true.

Lots of reasons:
1. Emotionally, I woke up to the reality that I am not the only one in his life.
2. Professionally, I realized that ordinary people can have the capacity for great evil.
3. Culturally, I learned that no matter what you do, you can't change people's perceptions once they are made up.
4. Personally, I faced the fact that no matter how old I am, I still have no control over my life.
