Definition: Race
2-1. a group of persons related by common descent or heredity.
2-2. a population so related.
it seems that it could be either. you could divide race as asian, european, etc. or you can divide it as japanese, taiwanese, korean, vietnamese, etc. it just depends on how you define race.

The 2 races are different.
And you should know "Taiwanese" is new concept.
98% of the population in Taiwan is said they are Han Chinese. But 15% of them came from main land China with Chiang Kai-shek to govern Taiwan after WW2.
The 15% was hoping unification of Taiwan and China. But the other 85% was not.
After the martial law was lift in 1987, they started to find new and their own identity. They started to call themselves as Taiwanese.

The characteristics of the 2 races, TW and JP, are very different.

Of course they are. I have been all over China and you can divide up different groups but they are all the same race as are the Japanese.

They could have been convinced they were fullly Japanese, if they had fully adapted the lifestyle, before we fought the Japanese and wrested Taiwan away.
But "race wise", of course they are. All East Asians are classified as part of the Mongoloid race, unless you count what the Portuguese or Dutch left behind. They aren't ******* or Caucasian are they?
