In the morden day world we live in, there is no clearcut answer to this question. This is so because we have women in jobs and areas which were once considered to be for men. However we have some pretty good men and women drivers out there. If we are thinking in terms of numbers then since I guess, there are more men drivers than women drivers, then one can say, on the basis of numbers only, then men are better drivers.
However since insurance for men drivers costs more than for women drivers, one could say that women are better drivers.
Going on stil, majority of women are more careful, by thier nature as women and child bearers than men, due to the varying testosterone levels that exist in the different genders.
Finally, in the earlier days when when women first started driving, it was a well documented fact that, men were better drivers, but that is not so true anymore, for women can do just as much as men can do these days.
My answer therefore would be that, in fairness, there is no clearcut sterotyped answer. There could be carelessness and big-headedness in both sexes but more so in men, when it comes to driving, but that should not be allowed to influence any decision one makes here.
There are both excellent men and women drivers out there, and that should be credited to the very high safety standards created over the years by successive governments as well as very high driving standards set by driving instructors out there.

Neither. Some people drive better than others and some drive worse.

Don't listen to the people that say women get huge discounts on car insurance. They used to, but are now closing in on the same rates as men. Insurance companies used to believe that men under 21 take more chances than women. That doesn't mean that women are better drivers, though. And on top of that, women are starting to take more chances as well (or their rates would not be going up).

i drive 52000 miles + per year not had an accident in 10 years i have had many near misses from men and women mostly by women the men cutting up and the women pulling out not looking usually i also ride a motorcycle as you can guess i have a near miss every day people trying to race me (men) (never had a problem with women YET) anyway its not about who's best its about safety and being courteous on the road so next time your out look twice dont just pull out because it hurts when you hit a bike and it may be me!!

I do not know but at school run time all bets are off. Another thing is that women have fewer high speed crashes which are more expensive and in families tend to drive less. I think the risk of insurance companies tends to reflect a way of life rather than skills

The insurance companies say women are better drivers due to statistics. What they don't tell you is, the average male commutes 50 miles in rush hour traffic and women are going to the grocery store for milk 1 mile down the road. Do the math. :)

women are usually more cacious than men and we usually like big fast muscles and if we have one then we take care of it so i dont know probably men under some circumstances but women most of the time
