In the lower 48 states it is in Colorado. Mt Elbert is 14,433'. Of all the 50 states it is Alaska. Mt Denali, ( Mt McKinley ) I think it is close to 20,000'.
The last time I checked, the USGS had Mt Whitney in Ca. being slightly less in actual elevation than Mt. Elbert.
