God it's so hellish.
I will be the first to tell you that it is indeed possible to survive, but it is NOT possible for me to do it happily.

I crashed my car 3 years ago, and then drove a beat up truck for a little while until it just couldnt go anymore.
after that i was carless for a long time.

I feel very blessed that I had several roomates at that time, and several GENEROUS roomates at that. and therefore I was sometimes allowed to take one of their vehicles to work and back, or get them to give me a ride, depending on their schedules.

However, I certainly had to take my share of Transit Bus rides, and it is not a good feeling. that overwhelming feeling of knowing that I HAVE to ride the bus, its not something that I want to feel again. it makes me feel sad and depressed.

Several times I have walked many miles home from my job at night and in the rain and cold because the transit was not running that late and no one could pick me up.

I now have a nice, reliable car once again and I feel like I am blessed, every day. there is not a day that goes by when I dont remember having to ride the transit and feeling sad, lonely, and unfortunate.

NO WAY! I love having the freedom to just take off and go when I want. If I didn't have a car I would have to ride buses and trains and whatever else.....I have no patience for waiting ...:)

I do it all the time. Yeah, it is hard, especially when you have two kids, but it can be done.
