Nobody deserves a medal for doing what's right. Asking for a reward is rude and classless. A reward should be at the owner's discretion. It's a nice gesture on the owner's part, but that's all it is - a gesture. It's not mandatory.
Some kid found my grandmother's wallet once. When he dropped it off at her house, the kid's father asked my grandmother to give his son a reward for finding the wallet. She gave him this dirty look, but offered up the money. I would have slammed the door in his face.

Ask no. Expecting a reward for a good deed, in moral terms negates teh good deed. It becomes a job at that point.
You can not "demand" a reward.
That said, people will often offer a reward.

I don't think so, they should only be rewarded if the person they helped wants to reward them. If people expect rewards for doing good deeds then they are doing it for the wrong reason.

It's a free country, so a little thing called free speech allows him to ask anything he wants. But, is it ethical to do so? Not at all. It negates the purpose for doing "a good deed" and becomes more of an entitlement issue.
The greatest rewards come when you least expect them.

No. A good dead ceases to be a good deed upon expectation of reward.
Asking for a reward would be wrong.

Yes, they could. And it wouldn't be altogether wrong. The good deed shouldn't be considered contingent on getting a reward though.

From a strictly commercial point of view, yes, but asking for a reward shows you to be a little short of the milk of human kindness, even though you are honest.

The only reward is the is that you built up some good Karma and spared at least one person some heartache. That ought to be enough... No, don't expect anything more than that, are you sick?

I find that to be in bad taste. Rewarding people for doing something that they should be doing anyway reflects on our society as a whole.
