People don't know the meaning of insurgents. Insurgents are people coming in from outside the country. In Iraq , these are terrorists from Iran and Syria.

They are Suni against Shia and they are fighting for control of the government. This has been going on well before Sadam took power. He understood that you have to crush your enemy to have peace in Iraq.

The Sunnis and Shiites both want to establish their own theocracy, not democracy. Any democracy they would want to establish would be like the one in Iran, whereby candidates must be approved by the ruling ayatollahs.

they want control of the country, and run it how they see fit, they also want america out, i guess they looked at how our democracy hasn't worked well and figured they better try something else before they get a leader that didn't win the election.
