My favouritr as a child in the late 1940's (No television for me until 1956) was Thomas the Tank Engine. Having poor eysight I could just read it because the print was slightly larger and a greater contrast comapred to other books.
I am delighted that my Grandchildren love these stories on film and book as much aas II did, without my influence, but perhaps my son's

Paddington Bear was one of my favourites.
He'd be a good one to do with a duffle coat, some wellies a hat and a little suitcase as well as a label round your neck.

I used to love zippy, goerge and bungle from rainbow. Not sure how you would manage to dress up as a pink hippo though.
