With £2.7bn of Brit investment in their still very weak economy I would say they'll be looking for ways to make a cautious retaliation, which pretty much precludes cutting off the gas. I reckon we'll see a 70's style tit for tat expulsion in the next couple of weeks - probably with spying charges attached. The Russians are not famous for originality after all.

They are now looking for a way to sound strong to their citizens without escalating the problem. They cannot afford to look weak, particularly with an election coming within the next year but have no benefit from making the problem bigger.
Britain refused Russian requests for extradition because Russia was unable to produce evidence of criminal activity and the people they wished to extradite were mainly guilty of political dissent. The current case is a State sponsored murder with the State now protecting its assassin which is an extension of the Russian attitude to dissent.

I am sure a couple or so of British diplomats will get expelled, and a few threats of reducing natural gas to Britain, then it will go all quiet on the Western Front. It will be out of the news within a fortnight.

I hope they switch the gas supply off, that will teach our stupid government for putting all their eggs in one energy basket.
Apart from that, what about the Russian (business) criminals and terrorists that the U K is harbouring, the Russian government has requested their return so they can stand trial for their crimes?
Comrade Brown is standing on his head just like his predecessor, hypocrites the pair of them.

well it's a bit of a worry considering that Russia supply us with gas and the worse scenario would be if they cut off gas supplies to us. They could hold us to ransom over that
