My opinion is that she is a scared teenager. She probably didn't have much support, and was terrified at the reality when she gave birth. I don't think she should be killed, or shot, or "institutionalized." I think she should get some counseling, and get some education. Not everyone knows that they do in fact have a choice. Not enough people know about the "Safe Haven" laws. I think it's a very sad situation, and both the mother and the baby are victims here.

It is horrible on so many different levels.. In the state I live in, you can drop the baby off at the hospital no questions asked.. So I can not understand why anyone would feel the need to possibly kill the poor baby by leaving it in the trash...With the way some parenting is in this day and age, so many people not teaching their children morals, responsibility and just plain letting them run wild, it is no wonder this kind of thing is happening more and more....

There's no excuse for that. A mother could take a baby to the hospital, or a church or even a police station and request help, if she felt she couldn't care for a child. But to just put a baby in the trash? How is that any different than attempted murder? She did leave the child to die.

I don't think everyone here should be so quick to judge. Giving birth is a traumatic experience and doing it alone in a bathroom would be even more unimaginably so. This girl was undoubtedly in shock over the experience and acting without reason. I can't begin to imagine what she was going through, but charitably, feel she must not have had full control of her capacities. Please try to put yourself in her place for a moment before passing judgment.
No, she didn't act rationally or sensibly, but was she even able to? Yes, her behavior was contemptible and inhumane, but did she realize this?
Thank God the baby is alright and they are receiving the care that they need. I send prayers and blessings to the entire family to ease them through this to a positive outcome. The mother and family will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

We often see this situation in little girls who's parents have high expectation, and never allow their teens to talk to them without being biased. I don't agree with what she has done but I kind of blame the parents as much as I do her. I mean there are people everyday that have abortions, this little baby had more of a chance to live then one that is aborted. The little girls should receive help though, the baby adopted out.

I don't get it. Many states now have it where they can drop the baby at hospital/firehouse without any questions asked or threat of prosecution. Why? There are so many people that could and would love to have that child. Sad.

There was absolutely not reason for that. She could have went to the hospital had the baby and gave it up for adoption. Simple. Theres couples out there that would love to have that baby.

That is shocking!!! I wouldn't of killed her straight away. Maybe put her in a trash can for a few months to die. So she feels what it feels like....

It's about as bad when teenage girls ask if they are pregnant when it's obvious they are.
In a nutshell, ignorance is no excuse.
