Unless you accept that your Creator exists, there is no purpose "out there" to be found. Purpose requires a designer and a plan. A purpose is a plan.

So if you are seeking a real purpose, you must first seek God.
Most people are just seeking some good feeling (or a way to get rid of the bad feeling of have no purpose in life). If that is all you seek, then here are some tricks you can play on your mind:
1) Invent some purpose and pretend it's real, e.g. "I want to leave the world a better place than I found it".
2) Busy yourself with every sort to activity so that you won't think about it, e.g. sports, hobbies, career, etc.
3) Focus exclusively on things that generate happy feelings, e.g. playing with your child or a beach vacation or a good restaurant.
OR seek God.

I haven't found my purpose in life yet but I thought I did and then I realized I was mistaken so now I'm still looking again.
I hope when I find it again...it will be the real thing....or maybe not.
I like Judas Rabbi's anwer...give him best answer so he might get ahead on his 5 or 6% best answer rating...after a few hundred thousands of answers, you should think the guy(s) is trying...

And I hate it when people have kids so they don't have to make something of themselves... or even think about what purpose they serve.
It's like saying, well... my kids are going to be the ones that do that big important thing... my big important thing was to birth them....
Unless you are Lady Madonna or the father of the Dalai Lama, then it's just a lie you tell yourself.
