Other presidents to consider:

Martin Van Buren (1837-1841) who really helped this country get into a severely crippling economic recession.

Milliard Fillmore (1850-3) Nobody recalls this guy, for a reason.

James Buchanan (1857-1861)---his bungling and profound lack of backbone only accelerated the start of the Civil War. Classic case of a guy who passed the buck to Abraham Lincoln, and had Honest Abe fix up all his messes.

Andrew Johnson (1865-1869) Political intrigue more than anything else got him impeached (and then acquitted), but his spectacular incompetence must be read about to fully comprehend.

Ulysses S Grant (1869-1877) Famous Union general was extremely popular and a nice guy, but he simply couldn't do the presidential job. Outrageous corruption in his administration erupted into scandal all around him, almost non-stop, during his two terms. He was way too popular for folks to seriously criticize, however, since he was so fondly remembered for his military service. (WW II hero Dwight D. Eisenhower was sort of in the same boat almost 100 years later, but Ike did have some administrative skills and showed some guts.)

Warren G. Harding (1921-23)---died while in office, possibly consumed by stress and anxiety related to the huge Teapot Dome Scandal. Apparently he was a nice guy who was way too trusting, and his Cabinet took advantage of him.

Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-69)---meant well enough with his various domestic programs, but personally running the Vietnam War was a gigantic "no-no" even though it was in his right as C-in-C. He should have let the generals and the advisors run it. The Vietnam War might have ended sooner, in this case. He did do the right thing by not running for re-election.

Richard M. Nixon (1969-1974)---other than warming up ties with China, did this guy do ANYTHING right? A twisted, evil crook.

Jimmy Carter (1977-81)---definitely a nice, trustworthy human being who's one of the very few politicians who will die and go to heaven with few complications. But DAMN, what a horrible president! Did he do anything right at all, other than staying in the ethical and moral right?

George H.W. Bush (1989-93)---"Read my lips! No new taxes" Ooops! Other than Desert Shield/Desert Storm, this guy was just an embarrassment and a running joke. Not helped at all, with Dan Quayle as his VP.

Bill Clinton (1993-2001)---This is debatable. What a president does in his bedroom isn't really anyone's business, but no US President should EVER lie under oath! The impeachment was a national embarrassment. Also, his Cabinet and staff was a ridiculous joke. Remember George Stephanapolos, Warren Christopher, janet Reno and Jocelyn Elders? Good . . . lord . . .

George W. Bush (2001-) I do sense history will reveal he is indeed the worst US president EVER, but since he's still in office let's no be so quick to rush to judgment. Though I am certainly tempted to! >__<

Can't we stop this line of questioning. Read a history book. Do you even know who Grant is? Not only was Grant incompetent as an administrator (remember the only new idea he ever had was to win a war by piling up more dead bodies than the Confederates could match), but he had the single most corrupt administration ever experienced in this country. Before all of you Bush haters say "until this one" please be honest and look at the Grant administration. With the level of sunlight required by our current laws you can't be as corrupt as you could in the 1870s without being noticed.

The amazing thing is that even Grant might not be the worst. Certainly Buchanan had a good claim as he mismanaged us into civil war. One could say that he was dealt a bad hand but he certainly played it about as poorly as could be imagined.

But for those of you who truly believe that Bush is the worst president ever I don't think that you will understand the perspective that history will give. Please enjoy the conceit that a willing ignorance can provide.

Worst:

1. Lincoln (720,000 dead, far bigger fascist than Bush).
2. Wilson (Income Tax, Federal Reserve, World War I, League of Nations).
3. FDR (Concentration Camps for 120,000 Americans, prolonged the depression, ignored Supreme Court rulings and tried to destroy the court).
4, LBJ (Vietnam)
5, Bush (Leave No Illegal Alien Behind Amnesty Act, No Border Enforcement, Iraq debacle, Medicare RX, Largest Government Spending in the history of the world). Conservative my ***.

I don't think there's a doubt about it. Carter's presidency wasn't strong, but all the work he has done diplomatically since his presidency makes up for this I think. Takes a very special person to screw the American economy, lie to start a war that we are now completely stuck in, assist in further destruction of the environment through things such as the so called cleaner skies act, and take MAJOR steps backwards in the human rights department. All things done by W. Time is the great equalizer, and I think time will continue to show him for the fraudulent disgrace of a president that he is and will be until the day he leaves office.

The sands of time will mark him as the worst president ~ I am sure of that. Once this administration packs their bags and leaves the house, many will come forward regarding the corruption and deceit. It's what we don't know right now that will be horrifying later.

My feeling is that he will become the example for all others in the future 'not to follow'. We will learn from the mistakes. It's that simple.

People tend to overexaggerate the importance of people, places, and events in their own time. After the invention of electricity, a worker at the patent office said that the world had reached the pinnacle of technology and that no significant inventions would ever follow. Yeah, obviously that guy had a very short-sighted view of the world. He wasn't able to see beyond his own time period, sort of like you're doing now. I suggest studying a little history and take a look at some presidents. You'd be surprised to learn how crappy many of them were.

Actually Abe Lincoln had a lower approval rating than Bush's in the summer of 1864.

Study some history. That would require some reading. Not the history channel.

Most definitely the worst president since I have been old enough to know what they do and have paid attention. Politicians have always been there for their own benefit, this one is the worst I've seen.
