Maybe he feels the same way as I do that ODIs are not fun to play as the test matches. ODIs are bad for cricket.

Because he wasnt at his best when he played ODI's. Many cricketers these days quit playing one day games but still continue onto playing test cricket for many years, could be simply because too much work load or stress of being a captain of a side that isnt playing very well at the moment.

Answer is very simple. He achieved the main objective of getting Freddie out of the captaincy line and second he didn't want to be labelled a "good for nothin' fellow in ODI.
