ok, i feel really dumb and nerdy, but to go to the Harry Potter release party at Barnes and Nobles, do you have to have preordered the book? Because I've always wanted to go to a Harry Potter party and this is pretty much my last chance. I mean I'll preorder if I'm supposed to, I just need to know how this release works?

You don't HAVE to, but you really should! People who didn't pre-order end up having to wait for the hundreds (even thousands, depending on store size) of people who DID pre-order. And who wants to wait in a line? I recommend you hurry up and pre-order!

Oh, and don't feel dumb or nerdy. =)

The release is going to happen officially at midnight. All the people who come will have received numbers. When they call the group with your number (like Numbers 1 - 100, go to Register One) then you go up and get the book. People who didn't pre-order are always last. =( So I make sure to reserve a copy. =) Good luck!

I'm pretty certain you don't have to pre-order in order to go. They won't have a book set aside with your name on it if you don't pre-order, but if they have any left over after those who pre-ordered and showed up get theres (and after setting aside the books for those who pre-ordered but didn't show), then you may be able to get a copy.

They may have a special going for those who pre-ordered. I went to the Border's release party for "Half-Blood Prince" and they had two kinds of specials going that night. One was open to all, so much off of merchandise purchased that night. The other was taking the first and adding a coupon that took off even more from your purchase but it was only open to those who pre-ordered. I didn't pre-order and went with someone who did, so I didn't get the coupon. I'd imagine Barnes & Noble probably does the same.
