Anyone done it, any advice? My partner would like to go as he thinks he could make a lot of money in the IT industry, I'm a teacher and apparently teaching jobs are easy to get hold of out there too?

Lots of my friends have recently gone to live in Dubai. As it is tax free, you are right that you will earn more over there whatever job you do. Also, as the place is growing at huge rates there are more jobs than local people and therefore the expat/migrant worker community is HUGE. I would imagine both of you would find jobs easily. All the big UK recruitment agencies work over there so I would contact them as a first port of call.
Things to consider though. 1. Its very hot. Really, really hot. I was there in June and it was already 47 degrees celsius - ie. you can't really do much outside, not even swim in the sea as its already 33 degrees and like bath water. It gets worse in July/August. 2. Culturally it is not like living in other western cities. It is a muslim state and the 'rules' of engagement are a bit different than if you were moving somewhere in europe or the states. You just need to be aware of that - its not negative if you are aware of it in advance and are happy with how things will be.
My friends who moved there love it - they earn more, can afford a maid and eat out a lot (although this isnt cheap, and neither is alcohol). The weather is obviously sunny and hot and it rarely rains. Everywhere is air conditioned and everyone drives everywhere.... literally everywhere.
I personally would not live there because of the extreme heat and also because I find that for me personally, the place is a bit soul-less and quite shallow/over the top (it always reminds me of a kind of vegas/disney type place) but I would strongly advise that you go and spend a few weeks there and see what you think! If you want to have a change for a year and earn more cash and get some sun I think this is a great place for you. There are lots of brits over there and you will have no shortage of social events.... :) good luck

From your question I guess you are not married to your partner.

You will need to be sure you both have jobs in Dubai before moving in that case as you both would need Visa sponsors. If you are married then your husband can sponsor you. If you are a certified teacher you may be able to sponsor your husband.

If you are from one of 23 countries that can get visa's at the boarder then you could make visa runs to Oman every 60 days however the UAE has a loosely applied law that you can only have 3 visas in a row without a 30 stay outside the country. After the third time you run the risk of being refused entry at the boarder.

I did it. ,,, I don't know about IT jobs but Teachers and nurses make good money in Dubai and Saudi Arabia. IT jobs might be taken by cheap paid workers from different parts of the world (foreign expatriates). I suggest you get a job, sign a contract before you travelling. Be advised the weather ain't that friendly. It is so hot than you can imagine.

Money is not everything, but money matter alot overthere, cost of living ain't cheap. Especially the basic food and water, very costly overthere. Nearly all activistis indoor with A/C because is extremly heat and humid overthere. There's alot of school overthere need foreign teacher especially in English. Living cost is cheap compare most metropolitan area, a 2 bed room apartment (new build) cost less than 150,000. But dubai has horrible traffic, and top of that they building like 50 building of resident apartment. They friday is us sunday, mean can get to see the latest movie 2 days ahead of the state.

After reading ur qn it looks like as if ur parents have already got job in IT industry in Dubai and u juz following them to Dubai and want to look for job in teaching field. This is something what i understood fm ur qn... If u looking for a job in teaching field then drop ur CV in some of the good school/college in Dubai as soon as u reach here. Otherway to look for the job is to scan thru gulf news and khaleejtimes appointment section (both local newspaper). There are plenty of job sites also avlb which also advertises in newspaper.

Please go through the link giving below. It's Astrid's webpage (one of the best) and provides you will all kind of contacts and adresses:

http://www.startpagedubai.com/jobs.htm

Please be aware that here in the UAE most IT jobs are done by very well educated and experienced Indians. Because in the UAE the salary you'll receive depends on your nationality, most companies hire Indians doing these jobs than Westerners.

Astrid's page also provides you with adresses where you can apply for a teaching job. How difficult or easy it is to land a job depends on your qualification and exprience.

When ever you get so far to negotiate a "salary package" it's advised that housing and transportation is provided. That should be the minimum. Please be aware that the rents in Dubai are skyrocking and also when the taxfreesalary sounds good, without provided housing you won't get anywhere. For more information on this subject and many more, browse through Astrid's webpage and get an idea.

Btw: If you both get lucky to get employed in the UAE, get married and have your marriage certificate certified in your home country.

first of all u r welcome :)
now ............ur question is not exactly clear to me, but wht i am able to grasp is this that ur partner is willing to b in dubai fro his future and u r already a teacher back in ur home country and u as well wish to work here as a teacher again.............. so then for this i'll suggest you to try some job search online before visiting dubai.
no doubt ur mate could get a very handsome salary but it will all depend which company he is recruited to and at what level.and tht's y i suggest him to check the job offered online.
as far as ur case is concerned u as well can try online search to get the job or when u visit dubai at tht time coz as i've seen here normally for teachers it's easy to get jobs, but the salary !!!!!! no comments on tht .................
