That totally depends on where you are going to school and what the community is like. I went to UC San Diego and am glad I brought my car b/c I needed it. If you are going to college in a small, compact typical college town then you probably wouldn't need it or if you are going to school in a city with a lot of public transit like Boston or NYC too. Just think about the community the college is in; is it small? can you walk to stores and most of what you need? Can you bike? is the public transit good? maybe if you stated where the college was located people might have a better idea on whether you need a car or not, especially if they live near the college.

It really depends on where you plan on going to school at. If the school is somewhere that has a decent transportation system that can meet your needs, or if alot of things are in walking distance, then you are probably better off leaving it at home and keeping the wear and tear off it. On the other hand if the school isn't somewhere that has the above or you just want that extra freedom you have when you have your car handy then it could be worth it to you. Try weighing these odds, Gas money Vs. nus fair ext., not having to pay and insurance premium while your off at school, buying a cheap car when you get there, look at local auto auctions and classifieds. Best of luck.

In general, no. If you're not familiar with the streets, you need to learn them. Traffic patterns vary widely and you need to learn them. The school may or may not provide parking. Small colleges usually don't have enough. Some schools don't want freshmen to bring their vehicles. Will your insurance go up? Check with your agent. Most colleges and universities have shuttles or public transportation available. Ask your counselor or student contact. Are you from a small town? Is your prospective school in the same generally sized town? I went to a smaller sized community, had to get special permission to bring my car, and then wound up ferrying half the dorm around at times. It cut down on study time, and I needed a native to direct me for the first semester. Buses are good, usually safe, and a whole lot cheaper. The only reason you might need a car is if their is no convenient way to get from the airport or train station to your school and back again.

If you can afford the long term expense of a car -yes
Oh yeah one more thing: You can't drive 1227.57mi in 19 hours. To do so would mean that you would have to average 64.608 mph and over that distance that is impossible. Better add another day to your trip

Yes.. and long road trips are fun.. get a friend to drive up with you, and she or he can either fly or get the train or bus back..If you can afford to run the car while at school, I would definitely bring the car. It just makes life so much easier.

How often do you plan on going back home? How much would it cost for plane/bus tickets? How often will you drive your car? I would'nt be able to live without my car, unless I lived in a big city. Will you be moving to a big city, suburb or the sticks? Is your car reliable enough to make it?

It depends. Is your school in a place with good public transportation? Would parking be a problem? Can you afford the insurance, gas and upkeep?
